Terraform’s License Change Sparks Frustration

The recent Terraform licensing shift to BSL? Well, it’s got a lot of folks seriously miffed, and for good reason!

Terraform’s license shift is concerning. This move threatens to smother the once-thriving open-source Terraform community, causing passionate contributors to fork the project (opentf).

Elasticsearch took a similar path, leading to Opensearch. But Terraform relies heavily on community-maintained providers. If a Terraform vs. #opentf showdown occurs, you can bet your bottom dollar the contributors will lean towards the open-source side.

Hashicorp’s priorities might be shifting. It’s a reminder of why we value open source. The future of Terraform, or should I say OpenTF, is now in the hands of those who give a damn. Exciting times ahead. 🚀
